Singing Whales

One of my favorite stories about George Dyson comes from the book “Inside Passage” by Michael Modzelewski / HarperCollins Publishers, 1991. Gorge tells of having to make camp tided off in the middle of a kelp bed he slid down inside his skinned kayak called a Baidarka. As he lay in the bottom of his kayak watching the stars above dosing of to sleep a sound as load as a freight train just below him startled him from his sleep. It was Humpback Whales just below him singing to the stars. He listened for hours till they finally swam away. My ispiration for: Northwest Seascape Point 5 custom long distance kayak.

Nehalem Morning

Early morning paddle as my shadow grows long
Mountains tall and jagged surround
Smoky clouds hanging low
Ancient giants growing so tall
Watching beavers at work and play
Eagles and Hawks keep a vigilant watch
Time stands still in this wonderers place
A place I could call home
Too many days spent in the office glair
If only I could not see nature here
I would not believe it exists at all
