Area Paddled: Wheeler Public Docks to the head of the Nehalem Bay Estuary, circumnavigating Lazarus Island, then up the Nehalem River about two miles past the forks.

Start day two coastal trip

Sunrise on the Nehalem River at Wheeler, Oregon

Is this the life? A watercolor in the making.

What a morning a little Bailey’s Irish Cream in the coffee.

Turning the corner in to the Lazarus Island Slough.

The low sunrise in the east.

The mountain views.

I was not paying attention to my surroundings and looked up to see this family of Elk.

As I was exiting the slew I spotted this Blue Heron.

I decided to head upriver toured the city of Nehalem.

This Bald eagle was my constant companion as I paddled up river about 5 miles.

Most of the city of Nehalem was built in the late 1800’s and some of the buildings still remain.

Where the North and South forks of the Nehalem river come together I decided to take the scenic North Fork.

The North Fork of the Nehalem River has great views of Onion Peak it is told the Spanish hid gold bullion up in the Native American caves..

Long tranquil stretches of tree lined river.

On the way back down the river the sun got high enough it made the water sparkle like diamonds.

There is a lot of wildlife along the river like this black Sea Cormorant.

It has been a great paddle today around 14 miles roundtrip.

I am back where I started, the Public Boat Docks in downtown Wheeler Oregon
